See the documents below for samples of my college teaching.
I taught a writing course, GWRIT 103 ( General Writing 103) to college freshmen. This was their introductory course in the world of college-level writing. I focused my course on persuasive writing because all college writing is persuasive writing to one extent or another, and persuasive writing focuses on critical skills such as critical thinking and reasoning.
Here are a couple of assignments for GWRIT 103: my Argument for a Cause paper assignment as well as an assignment sheet for my “How to Read a Website” writing assignment.
The other course I taught was an American literature course, GHUM 200 ( General Humanities 200). This was a course I designed myself and I was (and am) very proud of it. It started out by taking American literature from this time period and teaching it through the lens of current events and pop culture coolness. As I taught the course more and more, it turned into an exploration of who we think we are as Americans and why we think about ourselves the way that we do. I called it “American mythology”. It was a tremendous learning experience. I truly loved teaching this course.
Here are my course reading schedule and a sample of a writing assignment.
